Auto-DQ delivers £400 million in potential savings for connected UK SMEs
E-creation launched Mail-DQ this week to offer increased reliability and potential to slash e-mail retrieval costs for the 800,000 small to medium size enterprises (SMEs) in the UK using separate modem/ISDN lines for E-mail retrieval and Internet connectivity. For an SME connecting using an ISDN or modem connection to retrieve e-mails over an eight-hour working day, the connection costs are slightly under £5000 per year (based on BT standard tariffs). Using With Mail-DQ, this cost can be eliminated. This represents a potential saving for UK SME’s of close to £400 million (based on Mail-DQ being installed into 10% of the UK’s 800,000 SMEs who use a phone line or ISDN for e-mail collection). Development of the application began in late 2000 after E-creation concluded that connection costs were unnecessarily high due to the use of a separate phone line for e-mail collection and for Internet access.

The solution was developed in C++ to reduce file size and can be downloaded in under a minute (based on a 56K modem). “Installation of e-mail technology is expensive enough without excessive on-going costs. The problems experienced at E-creation with e-mail retrieval costs and reliability meant that developing Mail-DQ beyond an internal tool into a commercial application made perfect sense. With Mail-DQ having the potential to save UK SMEs £400 million per year, SMEs cannot afford to ignore this product” said E-creation’s MD, Jan-Erik Paul. Mail-DQ is available at a cost of £99 and can be downloaded from www.mail-dq.com. E-creation is an award-winning e-business development agency producing lateral e-business and Internet solutions for companies such as Unisys, BP, Dorling Kindersley, 3COM and Reed Publishing.
