Bespoke intranet development for client’s needs
While intranet development isn’t our primary focus, we frequently integrate or develop bespoke intranet solutions to address our clients’ complex internal communication and security challenges. Our problem-solving expertise allows us to seamlessly incorporate intranet functionality into our web development projects.
Cloud-based solutions and content management systems (CMS) have simplified or eliminated many intranet functions but when creating bespoke web and interactive multimedia products, there’s still a compelling case for specialised intranets tailored to specific needs.
At E-creation, we often develop intranets for organisations with unique requirements in areas such as bandwidth, security, or browser compatibility. Our intranet development projects typically focus on HR issues or CD-ROM engineering, but we can tailor solutions to any specific need. We work closely with our clients to understand their unique challenges and develop intranets that deliver maximum value.
Intranet development case studies
Harcourt Education Intranet
For Harcourt Education, we developed a sophisticated intranet platform designed to streamline the process of authoring multimedia CD-ROMs. Our solution featured a user-friendly graphical interface that simplified content management, structural organization, and team collaboration.
The intranet empowered teams around the world to efficiently manage and contribute to content creation projects. A key success factor was the platform’s intuitive interface, which was accessible to non-technical users, including illustrators, authors, and project managers.
Built using a combination of HTML, .NET, Flash, and XML, the intranet enabled authors to create and test individual activities and games in real-time over the internet. This facilitated rapid iteration and ensured a high-quality end product.
3com Sales Information Intranet
E-creation developed a bespoke intranet solution for 3Com, leveraging internet distrinution technology to deliver a branded and engaging sales experience.
The intranet incorporated customer requirements analysis and linked documentation management, providing a centralized hub for information and resources. To meet the fast-paced demands of the technology industry, the intranet was designed to dynamically update its content without requiring changes to the Flash file itself. By managing product specification sheets online, the intranet could pull in the latest information, ensuring that CD-ROMs already in the market remained current and relevant.
Slough Borough Council Intranet
E-creation delivered a suite of innovative intranets for Slough Borough Council, fostering communication and engagement across various departments. These intranets catered to the unique communication needs of the Slough community, including social networking, business events management, website content management systems and poll creation, all seamlessly integrated into national government’s performance reporting requirements.
For the SloughForYOUth.com website, E-creation designed a comprehensive intranet that facilitated both public contribution and council-managed content. A user-friendly platform allowed residents to submit content, which was then reviewed and approved before publication. This fostered community engagement while maintaining editorial control. A crucial element of the project involved integration with the government’s activities portal, enabling the council to track and report on community participation in various initiatives, demonstrating the value and impact of their programs.
Rouse and Co Accountants Intranet
A key objective for the intranet was to foster a more personalised and welcoming environment. To achieve this, E-creation implemented an interactive ‘appointment’ request form on the homepage that recognized returning visitors.
When visitors request appointments, they are asked their preferred beverage. Upon returning to the site, a personalized welcome message greeted them, along with their virtual drink choice (we animated over 25 beverage options with steam and / or moving bubbles on the surface of the drink). This thoughtful touch helped create a more welcoming and memorable experience.
To streamline the appointment process, the intranet managed all appointments and sent daily email reminders to receptionists, providing them with a list of visitors, their preferred beverages, and estimated arrival times. This allows the reception team to be prepared and ready to welcome clients with a warm and personalised greeting in the form of the client’s drink ready.
